Next Tuesday’s two-hour performance night will feature songs from Teen Idols.

In contrast to this week’s Rolling Stones tribute, the Idol contestants – now Top 11 –  will be singing songs from Teen Idols – think boybands, girlbands, and any adolescent who ever had a record before they were 20. Can we expect an acoustic version of “Oops, I Did It Again” from Andrew Garcia? Or Siobhan Magnus’ tribute to her favorite band [gasp] Hanson? Will Big Mike manage to pull off a Backstreet Boy? And which Justin (Bieber/Timberlake) is Aaron Kelly going for? What will Mama [Crystal Bower] Sox sing? Will Paige Miles continue to channel Michael Jackson, the earlier years? Can Lee DeWyze and Casey James rock out with classics from New Kids on The Block? Will Tim Urban prove to be the fourth Jonas Brother? I’d like to see Katie Stevens show the strength of her voice by singing power ballads, like Jessica Simpson’s “I Wanna Love You Forever”. Didi Benami finally has a chance to sing something from Adele – maybe “Chasing Pavements”? In Randy Jackson’s words, “It’s gonna be dope!”

Judging by this week’s largely disappointing performances, Idol producers might be trying to revive a sleepy season with its younger audience. Look at the bright side, at least the judges won’t have to tell someone to be “young and current”.
